shelby shadwell
Born and raised in Springfield, Missouri, Shelby spent most of his years in the Midwest. In 2003 he received his BFA from Washington University School of Fine Art in St. Louis, where he studied printmaking and drawing as a Kenneth E. Hudson Scholar. He went on to accept a fellowship to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale and graduated with an MFA in printmaking and drawing in 2006.
Last summer, Shelby was an Artist in Residence at "ART 342" in Fort Collins, CO. This fall, his work was featured in the two-person exhibition, True West, at 222 Shelby Street Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He recently had work selected for the contemporary still life exhibition, PAUSE, at the Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center in Cincinnati, OH and Drawing Discourse at the University of North Carolina, Asheville. His work will be featured in the upcoming exhibition in print, the "International Drawing Annual 5" also from the Manifest Creative Research Gallery, and he will be showing new work at the 333 Shelby Street Annex in Santa Fe this summer.
Shelby is currently an Assistant Professor in the Art Department at the University of Wyoming. He was one of three artists to receive a Visual Arts Fellowship from the Wyoming Arts Council this spring.
